 GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — District Attorney candidate Andrea Harrington and Sheriff candidate Alf Barbalunga discussed racial justice at a forum held by the Berkshire Resources for Integration of Diverse Groups through Education, known as BRIDGE. On Monday, the candidates discussed equity from independent and office-wide standpoints at the Berkshire South Regional Community Center.
"We really want to keep the conversation going in the sense of accountability, really to historical and current issues and law enforcement and public safety in Berkshire County," BRIDGE founder and CEO Gwendolyn VanSant said.

 STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. —The Norman Rockwell Museum released it's schedule for the months of September through November. Exhibits: In addition to the "Imprinted: Illustrating Race" and "In Our Lifetime: Paintings from the Pandemic" exhibits which will be on view until Oct. 31, the museum is introducing two more. Norman Rockwell Drawings, 1914-1976 On view Sept. 10, 2022, through Jan. 7, 2023 A new exhibition featuring rarely seen Norman Rockwell drawings and preliminary studies from his six-decade career. Unlike previous district attorneys, Andrea Harrington has brought an unwavering sense of kindness and compassion to her office, which has enhanced the way the Berkshire court system operates.
Hopefully, when someone actually pays attention to her office's accomplishments, they will want to help her build upon the momentum of change she has created.
Andrea was elected four years ago because we wanted change. Let's keep that momentum going.

Deval Patrick, gathered at Old Parish Church on Sunday afternoon for the unveiling of a monument to civil rights pioneer Elizabeth Freeman exactly 241 years to the day that she won her freedom in court. Freeman's story may be well-known in the Berkshires but not so much elsewhere. She was, wrote former President Barack Obama, an "American hero whose story has not been told enough."  EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sheffield resident John-Michael Harden this month earned a gold medal at the DuPage Open figure skating tournament. Harden finished on top of a five-competitor field in the novice men combined division. He posted a score of 39.67 with a one-point decduction after a program that included a triple lutz and a triple salchow with a triple toeloop. Harden, who skates for the Connecticut-based Charter Oak Figure Skating Club, also took home a bronze medal in a 10-skater field in the novice men combined at the Cranberry Open in Norwood, Mass., this month. Sheffield Resident Injured in a Motor Vehicle Accident Staff Reports, iBerkshires

 GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A Sheffield resident was injured Wednesday afternoon after their vehicle crashed into the Dollar Tree Store in the Barrington Plaza. According to police, the driver struck a sign, a parked vehicle, and then rolled over and crashed into the front of the store in their 2006 Subaru Forester. The driver, who was not identified, was taken to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield by Southern Berkshire EMS. The Fire Department also responded to the accident at approximately 12:52 p.m. The cause of the crash is under investigation by Officer Andres Huertas and Officer Sam Stolzar. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Housatonic Valley Association (HVA), in partnership with the town of Great Barrington, has produced a Road-Stream Crossing Management Plan that identifies the highest priority road-stream crossing replacement projects in Great Barrington. This document is a guide for how road infrastructure projects should be designed to alleviate stream flooding and to ensure aquatic wildlife corridors are improved. Project funding is provided by the Housatonic River NRD Trustees and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. HVA and the town invite public comment on this plan until Aug. 31.  NEW MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Dr. Charles Parton served his country in World War II as a 2nd class pharmacist's mate for nearly four years. At 97 years of age, his memory is still sharp as a tack. He went to naval training in Newport, R.I., and remembered "being the last group to go through there. It was great. I learned all the usual stuff, including the difference between and boat and a ship." Du Bois Center for Freedom and Democracy of Great Barrington will present a roundtable discussion on the life and legacy of Elizabeth Freeman, the first enslaved African American to successfully sue for her freedom in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The roundtable will take place Friday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. at Dewey Hall. A reception will follow the roundtable.  LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be conducting overnight guardrail and bridge repair operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Lee and Becket the week of Aug. 8. The guardrail repairs will take place from mile marker 8.0 to mile marker 12.0 in Lee and Becket. The bridge repairs will take place at mile marker 8.5 in Lee. The guardrail work will be conducted beginning Monday, Aug. 8, at 7:00 p.m. and concluding the next morning by 5:00 a.m. The overnight hour work continues each night through Friday morning, Aug.12. The bridge repair work will be conducted on Monday, Aug. 8, and on Tuesday, Aug. 9, during overnight hours from 7:00 p.m.

 LEE, Mass. — Diana DiZoglio says the state's payment in lieu of taxes program, or PILOT, should be fully funded, especially with the Bay State having a 2023 budget surplus totaling about $3.6 billion. The Democratic candidate for state auditor visited October Mountain on Tuesday to speak on PILOT reform, which is a priority in her 17-Point Social Justice and Equity Audit Plan.
