CHP Prepares for Surge in Open Enrollment as More Residents Eligible for Subsidized Health Plans

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — With Open Enrollment for MA Health Connector insurance beginning Nov. 1, the CHP insurance enrollment team is preparing to assist many more area residents who will now qualify for subsidized insurance plans.    The income limit for Health Connector plans has risen to $69,400 for an individual and $155,000 for a family of four, or 500 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL). GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The U.S. News & World Report 2023 Best Colleges rankings have awarded Bard College at Simon's Rock top-tier rankings in a number of categories.    Within the Regional Colleges North ranking, Simon's Rock was tied #1 for Best Undergraduate Teaching and tied #2 in Most Innovative Schools. Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day is being observed Monday, Oct. 9. As Columbus Day, it commemorates Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas on Oct. 12, 1492. As Indigenous Peoples Day, it commemorates the harm to their cultures and communities that followed Columbus' arrival. 

Columbus' voyage had been celebrated on significant anniversaries but did not become an official holiday until being recognized by Colorado in 1905. It was declared a federal holiday in 1937.

Mount Everett Regional School Continues Early College and Innovation Pathways Programs

Eight Town Regional School District Planning Board Merger Informational Meeting

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — There will be an informational meeting about the Regional School District Merger at the West Stockbridge Town Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at 6 PM.     The eight Town Regional School District Planning Board Chair Lucy Prashker as well as Jake Eberwein, Consultant, will make a presentation and answer questions about the possible merger of the Berkshire Hills Regional School District and the Southern Berkshire Regional School District.     All eight towns will hold a Special Town Meeting to vote on this in late October.

South County Construction Operations

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that crews will be conducting daytime and overnight hour pavement milling, slope stabilization, bridge and drainage repair operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Becket, Otis, Lee, and Blandford.     The work will be conducted at various times and locations from Monday, Oct. 2, through Friday, Oct. 6.    Lane closures will be in place during the construction operations and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones.  The schedule for the work and lane closures will be as follows:    Becket Bridge repair operations will be conducted daily on I-90
