Great Barrington Seeks Town Meeting Volunteers

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The town clerk's office is seeking a few volunteers to help with on-site coordination of the annual town meeting on Monday, June 6, at 6 p.m.   The meeting will be held drive-in style, at Monument Mountain Regional High School. If the town meeting business is not complete on Monday, June 6, the meeting will continue on Thursday, June 9, at 6 p.m.   Volunteers will help to check in voters and distribute documents to voters as they arrive, tally hand votes and collect yes/no slips for votes on secret ballot articles on the town meeting warrant.    The clerk's office has six volunteers committed but is seeking at least four

Lila Kanner joins Jacob's Pillow as Chief Philanthropy Officer

Great Barrington Police Arrest 4 on Unarmed Robbery Charges

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Four individuals from New York State were arrested after an unarmed robbery at Berkshire Bank on Thursday afternoon.    Desmond Collins, 34, of Queens; Adam Lamar Morrison, 30, of Irvingdale; Christopher Wright, 32, of the Bronx; and Shamina Cruz, 45, of Manhattan are all charged with larceny more than $1,200 and unarmed robbery. Police said more charges may be pending.   An employee of Berkshire Bank's Stockbridge Road branch reported the robbery at about 2:39 p.m.   A woman was attempting a fraudulent transaction when a bank employee identified the transaction as suspicious; the woman then grabbed the money and fled the bank. 2022 State of the County Report Released

Bidwell House Museum Begins Season with a Concert and Reception

Naumkeag's ViewEscapes Encourages Individuals to be part of Nature

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Naumkeag encourages individuals to visit nature and experience culture through there new exhibit ViewEscapes which display sculptures that are one with nature.    The exhibit, curated by associate curator for the Trustees of Reservations Mark Wilson showcases 12 large sculptures outside the historic Choate family cottage. Participants can also find eight sculptures and three works of art inside the home.   This is not the first time George Rickey's kinetic work has been on display at Naumkeag. Great Barrington Community Preservation Committee to Review Funding

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The town's Community Preservation Committee will host a virtual meeting on Tuesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. to review CPA funding recommendations for the FY2023 year.    The spending plans are subject to approval by voters at the June 6 Annual Town Meeting. Clinton Church Restoration Announces New Funding

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Clinton Church Restoration has been awarded a $117,000 capital grant from MassDevelopment and the Mass Cultural Council, part of a round of Cultural Facilities Fund grants.   The funds will be used to help complete architectural and engineering plans for the African American cultural heritage center the nonprofit is creating in downtown Great Barrington. Becket Glamping Proposal Facing Loud Oppposition

BECKET, Mass. — Residents of the County and Yokum Pond roads sent a clear message during the second night of a public hearing for the Dream Away Lodge glamping proposal: not in our neighborhood.

Last week, nearly a dozen residents spoke against Hit The Road LLC's special permit request to re-open the Dreamaway restaurant and establish a glamping facility at 1342 County Road.  

Concerns about traffic and environmental impacts were repeatedly voiced. Many gave rather emotional testimonies about the quiet, serene atmosphere of Becket that attracted them in the first place.
