State Auditor Candidate Diana DiZoglio Urges PILOT ReformBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 LEE, Mass. — Diana DiZoglio says the state's payment in lieu of taxes program, or PILOT, should be fully funded, especially with the Bay State having a 2023 budget surplus totaling about $3.6 billion. The Democratic candidate for state auditor visited October Mountain on Tuesday to speak on PILOT reform, which is a priority in her 17-Point Social Justice and Equity Audit Plan.
"Funding by the commonwealth for payments in lieu of taxes on state-owned lands began in 1910 under Massachusetts General Law chapter 58, Sections 13-17, but starting with the fiscal crisis of 1989, the law has been underfunded to the detriment of our municipalities and especially our rural towns,

The event celebrated scholarship recipients who have taken the advantage of tutoring in English and citizen test preparation. Nineteen Keator scholarship recipients have become American citizens. STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Literacy Network of South Berkshire hosted a celebration Thursday at the Norman Rockwell Museum to honor its scholar and new Americans and the educators who helped guide them down the path toward citizenship.  TYRINGHAM, Mass. — Agricultural Commissioner John Lebeaux visited three Berkshire County farms on Wednesday to learn about their diverse practices. The tour began at Holiday Brook Farm in Dalton, then went to Robinson Farm in Becket, and ended at Woven Roots Farm in Tyringham. "We're always impressed with the diversity of [agriculture] in Berkshire County," Lebeaux said. Nonprofit Berkshire Grown organizes the farm tour each year with the commissioner. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Community Health Programs (CHP) is now offering COVID-19 pediatric vaccines for children between 6 months through age 4. These vaccines have been clinically tested and approved for use in young children to prevent serious illness and hospitalization from COVID-19. Full information about pediatric vaccines for children of all ages can be found on the CDC's website.
