Tenth Year of Berkshire Pottery Tour

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Berkshire Pottery Tour which highlights potters in their studios.   The Berkshire Pottery Tour was founded by a group of pottery friends who met at the Berkshire Art Center (then IS 183) in 2013.   "Berkshire Pottery Tour offers a glimpse into each potter's creative process and an intimate time to understand the work behind the final product," said Lucie Castaldo, executive director of the Berkshire Art Center.   Visitors will be invited to look inside seven very different working pottery studios with a wide range of price points for those interested in purchasing pieces.    Lorimer

CHP Welcomes New CEO

(CHP) has named Bethany Kieley as its new chief executive officer.     She joined the countywide healthcare network effective July 17.   Kieley was most recently chief operations officer at Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center, a federally qualified health center serving 55,000 patients in greater New Haven, Conn.   At CHP Berkshires, she will oversee a $30 million budget and approximately 240 employees. Although the mild temperatures are set to continue this weekend, temperatures should briefly break back into the 80s.    Today, Thursday, Aug. 3, expect temperatures in the high 70s with mostly sunny skies, according to AccuWeather. There is the potential for thunderstorms this afternoon.   On Friday, expect morning thundershowers. There is the possibility of damaging winds, flash flooding, and hail. There should be a high of 75.   Saturday, Aug. 5, should be sunny with a high of 80, reports to AccuWeather.   Sunday should also be nice with partial sun and temperatures in the high 70s.

CHP Hosts Free Online Training IEP 101

To the Editor:

While we are saddened by the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit which denied the HRI/HEAL appeal, it did not come unexpectedly.

Having fought against the injustices of General Electric to our environment and health and safety of our communities, we have seen an erosion of our legal system that supports wealth and power at the sacrifice of our citizens. It is well known that judges are chosen these days based more by political positions than legal accomplishment.

The luck of the draw was that the appeal was in front of a judiciary that has past decisions that clearly supported industry rather than citizens.

Roosa Leads Field of 100s at High Lawn Farm

LEE, Mass. -- Lee's Maguire Roosa and Glendale's Morgan Windram-Geddes were the top finishers Sunday at the High Lawn Farm Keep Moo’ving 5K.   The event was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the family-owned dairy farm and as a benefit for Berkshire Bounty, a food rescue organization that serves emergency food distribution programs county-wide.   Roosa hit the finish line in 19 minutes, 30.45 seconds, a 6:16 mile pace, to edge runner-up Pat McNaughton (19:31.87) by just more than a second.   Windram-Geddes was the top female finisher and sixth-place finisher overall, covering the out-and-back course around the farm property in 20:21.31.   The

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Local lawmakers and the cultural leaders on Friday called for the inclusion of people of all abilities in the creative economy.

The proposed Accessibility in the Creative Economy Act would would provide grants to organizations focused on arts, culture, humanities, and interpretive sciences that remove barriers for people with disabilities.

Blaze Destroys Great Barrington Garage, Woodworking Shop

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A Division Street garage went up in flames on Thursday night, destroying the woodworking shop inside.    The fire is under investigation by local authorities and the State Fire Marshal's Office but is not deemed suspicious and is presumed to be weather related. There were no injuries.   Firefighters responded to 69 Division St. at about 7:56 p.m. for a reported garage fire; additional calls to 911 reported a fully engulfed garage with a house in close proximity.   Interim Chief James Mead said he arrived to find heavy fire completely involving the structure with an exposure approximately 25 feet away. Berkshire County residents can expect high temperatures this week but a relatively cooler weekend.   Today Thursday, July 27, expect temperatures in the high 70s with storms. AccuWeather reports that storms could bring flooding downpours, hail, damaging wind gusts, and an isolated tornado.   There is an area flood watch in effect from 9 am to 10 pm. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.    On Friday, July 28, expect mostly cloudy weather with temperatures in the high 80s.    Temperatures will drop drastically Saturday with a high of 78. Showers can be expected as some thunderstorms.
