Great Barrington Applications for HWW Customer Reimbursement

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Housatonic Water Works (HWW) customers who have paid for the purchase/installation of water filtration systems, bottled water and laundry-related expenses may now apply for a reimbursement of up to $300 per household.   The state has set aside $250,000 for this reimbursement fund, to be administered by the town. The application can be found here.   To receive reimbursement (one per household) HWW customers must provide:   Documentation of eligible costs, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2018. Holiday Hours: Veterans Day

An image of the 353rd Infantry in France taken two minutes before the armistice ending World War I went into effect.

Veterans Day falls on Saturday, Nov. 11, and will also be observed Friday, Nov. 10, as a state and federal holiday.

The federal holiday is to commemorate the service of the nation's military veterans in ensuring peace.

It was first known as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. In recognition of the efforts of World War II veterans, President Eisenhower in 1954 signed legislation creating Veterans Day with the goal of honoring all American veterans.

Bash Bish Falls Parking Lot Work

MOUNT WASHINGTON, Mass. — Beginning on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, and continuing through Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close the Falls Road parking lot at Bash Bish Falls State Park in the Town of Mount Washington to complete parking lot construction work.   Due to the construction, the Massachusetts portion of Falls trail and the vista will be inaccessible. Parking is not permitted on Falls Road. Alternate parking can be found at Taconic State Park, off N.Y. Route 344 in Copake Falls, N.Y.

BRTA Holding Public Sessions for More Bus Service

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) is proposing to add new evening bus service to additional weekday and Saturday fixed routes.    At the October 26, 2023 meeting, the BRTA Advisory Board voted to proceed with a public comment period to gather customer feedback on the proposed additional service. NBSA, Saboteurs Win Fall League Titles

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Northern Berkshire Sports Academy and the Saboteurs Sunday took home the A and B Division titles in the NBSA Fall Basketball League.   Chris Brown scored the final four points of the game at the foul line to give NBSA a 71-68 win over Giardina and Bressett PC in the A Division final at Drury High School.   Brown, who went 12-for-13 at the line in the game, finished with a team-high 28 points in the win.   Scott McGuire scored 15 points, including 11 in the first half, when NBSA built a 41-37 lead.   It then opened the second half on a 12-4 run that ended in a Khalil Paul 3-pointer to push the lead to 53-41.   But Hayden Bird scored in the

Berkshire Delegation Commends Advocacy Of Constituents for Rural School Aid Program

BOSTON — State Senator Paul Mark, on behalf of the Berkshire Delegation, announced that funding for the Rural School Aid grant program has been raised to $15 million for Fiscal Year 2024, resulting in increases ranging from 30-210 percent for schools in the Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin and Hampshire District.    The program provides financial assistance to the Commonwealth's most rural school districts.   "Making sure that students throughout our region can access a high-quality education, equal to their counterparts around the state, is extremely important to me and our regional delegation," said Senator Mark. The Nature Conservancy To Remove Egremont House

EGREMONT, Mass. — Twenty-one years ago, The Nature Conservancy, Egremont Land Trust, and the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and the Department of Conservation and Recreation protected 213 acres of forested lands in Mt. Washington and Egremont, Mass., in the Berkshires.    The parcel is part of a 36,000-acre intact forest block which includes the headwaters of Karner Brook, an area of critical environmental concern and a public water supply for Egremont residents.
