It is a busy weekend in North County with the Solid Sound Music Festival opening its gates Friday and Memorial Day ceremonies Monday. Hopefully, the weather cooperates. Thursday, May 26, will be a cloudy spring day with temperatures in the mid-70s but come Friday, temperatures will creep up into the 80s with showers and thunderstorms expected. Expect high humidity and cloud cover throughout the day. The Weather Channel predicts that storms should begin in the afternoon. Same deal on Saturday, May 28. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, in conjunction with the Berkshire Leadership Impact Council, has released the Berkshire Benchmarks 2022 State of the County Report. This report summarizes data and trends that help identify the region's successes and challenges.  MONTEREY, Mass.— The Bidwell House Museum announced that they will open for their 31st season on Memorial Day weekend. Tours by appointment will begin on Monday, May 30 and on Sunday, May 29, at 2 p.m there will be an opening concert and reception with singer-songwriter Diane Taraz, who will perform her new show "No Such Thing as Idle Hands: The History of Women's Work." Following the show there will be a small reception to usher in the new season.  STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Naumkeag encourages individuals to visit nature and experience culture through there new exhibit ViewEscapes which display sculptures that are one with nature. The exhibit, curated by associate curator for the Trustees of Reservations Mark Wilson showcases 12 large sculptures outside the historic Choate family cottage. Participants can also find eight sculptures and three works of art inside the home. This is not the first time George Rickey's kinetic work has been on display at Naumkeag. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The town's Community Preservation Committee will host a virtual meeting on Tuesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. to review CPA funding recommendations for the FY2023 year. The spending plans are subject to approval by voters at the June 6 Annual Town Meeting. The May 24 meeting and log-in links can be found on the town calendar here. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Clinton Church Restoration has been awarded a $117,000 capital grant from MassDevelopment and the Mass Cultural Council, part of a round of Cultural Facilities Fund grants. The funds will be used to help complete architectural and engineering plans for the African American cultural heritage center the nonprofit is creating in downtown Great Barrington. This is the project's second award from the Fund, whose planning and capital grants provide investments in cultural facilities throughout the Commonwealth. BECKET, Mass. — Residents of the County and Yokum Pond roads sent a clear message during the second night of a public hearing for the Dream Away Lodge glamping proposal: not in our neighborhood. Last week, nearly a dozen residents spoke against Hit The Road LLC's special permit request to re-open the Dreamaway restaurant and establish a glamping facility at 1342 County Road.
Concerns about traffic and environmental impacts were repeatedly voiced. Many gave rather emotional testimonies about the quiet, serene atmosphere of Becket that attracted them in the first place.
