CHP Rolling Out Vaccines for Young Children

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Community Health Programs (CHP) is now offering COVID-19 pediatric vaccines for children between 6 months through age 4.   These vaccines have been clinically tested and approved for use in young children to prevent serious illness and hospitalization from COVID-19.    Full information about pediatric vaccines for children of all ages can be found on the CDC's website.   The CHP Mobile Health Unit (MHU) provides free vaccines to all, regardless of whether they are a CHP patient. Berkshire Waldorf High School Has Plans for Old Stockbridge Town Hall

Construction Begins in Castle Hill Neighborhood In Great Barrington

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Beginning July 5, 2022 contractors for the Town of Great Barrington will be working in the Castle Hill neighborhood, conducting investigative drilling on various streets.   Work will take place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., for about 10 days. Contractors will be using a drilling rig to bore holes through the pavement and sub-base of the road, at various locations.    This work is a preliminary step in planning for future replacement of much of the sewer and drainage infrastructure in this neighborhood.   Work will occur on Castle Street, Castle Hill Avenue, Hollenbeck Avenue, Prospect Avenue, Sumner Street, and Taconic Avenue. CHP CEO Stepping Down After Nearly 7 Years

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Community Health Programs (CHP) CEO Lia Spiliotes, who has led CHP since 2015, has announced she is stepping down from CHP.    In a statement to staff and colleagues, Spiliotes said she intends to refocus on family health priorities in Boston and New York. She stated she is also turning her professional attention to broader advocacy efforts around public and economic policy related to community health. The Troy's Garage team, based in West Stockbridge, was a regional semi-pro baseball power in the 1930s. The People's Pantry Launches First Fundraiser in 23 Years

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The People's Pantry has launched its first fundraiser in more than 20 years of operating with a goal of raising $300,000. This money will allow it to feed the community for the rest of 2022.

A drastic increase in need coupled with inflation has led the organization to this venture.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the pantry fed around 500 individuals a month and now it feeds more than 2,000.

Expenses have also dramatically risen, with its operating budget increasing by 500 percent between 2018 and 2021.

"The numbers have just skyrocketed," said Rees Shad, a member of the nonprofit's communications committee..

Juvenile Facing Charges in Searles School Fire

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — A teenager will face arson-related charges in connection with a fire this past weekend at the vacant Searles School.   The youth, who is not being identified because he is under 17, will be summonsed to appear in Berkshire County Juvenile Court at a later date.   "Every fire has the potential to hurt someone," said Fire Chief Charles Burger.
