DALTON, Mass. — Jane E. Hand, 82, of 379 North St. passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox.



Born on February 11, 1935, in Pittsfield, she was a daughter of late William S. Daniels Sr. and the late Ellen Thorwarth Daniels. and Ruth Daniels. She was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1954 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She also received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the former North Adams State College in 1977.



She married her husband, the late Raymond E. Hand Jr. on August 21, 1954. He died on December 13, 2003.



Mrs. Hand was employed for many years a as teacher in the Pittsfield Public School System and the Lanesborough Public School System. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and the Pittsfield Art League.



She leaves three daughters; Cynthia Hand, Kathleen Hardy and her husband Ken, and Dawn Ball and her husband Charlie, all of Pittsfield; four sisters, Ruth Wood of Pittsfield, Margaret Gardner and her husband Milton of Vermont, Mary Adams and her husband David of Pittsfield and Jeanne Musgrove and her husband Jack of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, William Daniels of Dalton and George Daniels and his wife Edith of Hinsdale; eight grandchildren, Chandra Cunningham, April Hand and her wife Leeann, Angel Maloney and her husband James, Kasey-Lee Maggs, Gina Hand, Danielle Shaw and her husband Patrick, Chelsea Hand and Jameal Hand; nine great-grandchildren, Kyle, Bryan, Cameron, Arysa, Landon, Audrina, Kaydance, Raylene and Annabelle; her brother-in-law, Ray Petell of Hinsdale and many nieces, nephews and extended family.



She was predeceased by a son, Eugene “Butch” Hand; a sister, Betty Petell; and two brothers, Thomas Daniels and David Daniels. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, the late Carey Jeanne Hand.



Funeral notice: Funeral Services for Jane E. Hand, who passed away November 5, 2017, will be held Friday, November 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon, N.Y.



Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday. Memorial donations in memory of Jane may be made to the funeral home to help her family with funeral expenses.
