Rose V. Castagna, 88

November 10, 2017


RICHMOND, Mass. — Rose Viola Castagna, 88, of Richmond passed away Friday, November 10, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center. 



She was born in New Ashford on March 9, 1929, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Francesca (Gaspardi) Cattaneo. Rose attended schools in New Ashford and graduated from Williamstown High School in 1947. She was employed by the General Electric Company for several years in the plastics department, then in the capacitor department in Building 42 and later as a file clerk in Building 10. Afterwards, she was employed as a helper and assistant cook at the Richmond Consolidated School and then the Berkshire Life Cafeteria until her retirement in 1988. 



Rose was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in West Stockbridge. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, bowling and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox. 



Rose was the widow of Fiorindo Castagna Jr., who died on December 25, 1995. They were married on June 23, 1951.



Survivors include her son, David F. Castagna of Richmond; three daughters, Jean M. Wood-Kimber and her husband Robert of Pittsfield, Linda R. Carusotto and her husband Anthony of Richmond, and MaryAnn Adler and her husband Dennis of Richmond; one brother John Cattaneo of New Ashford; and her grandchildren, Anthony, Christie, Ryan, Ashley, Alana (Fiancée of Anthony), Billy, Dion and Alicia. 



Rose was predeceased by her six sisters, Lucy Piantoni, Catherine “Rina” Cattaneo, Emma Hover, Zita Darling, Anita Golin and Doris Hughes.



Funeral notice: Services will take place Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 8:45 a.m. from the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Albany Road, West Stockbridge, Mass., with the Rev. Monsignor John J. Bonzagni, Pastor, officiating. 



Burial will follow in the Family Plot at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, November 17, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.
