David C. Hunter, 79

November 21, 2017


LENOX, Mass. — David C. Hunter, Lenox, Mass., age 79, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Berkshire Place in Pittsfield, Mass., surrounded by his family.



He was born in Pittsfield on January 17, 1938, the son of the late Robert J. and Margaret "Rosie" Curtin Hunter. He attended Lee Public Schools, where he played both football and baseball, and graduated from Lenox High School, where he also played baseball. While in school he was in the Marine Reserves and upon graduating he joined the Army in 1956.



He worked for P.J. Schweitzer Paper Mill in Lee, Lenox Oil Company, co-owned D & D Weatherstripping and retired as owner of All Weather Window Company. After retirement he worked for B & B Landscaping & Excavation. Dave loved being outdoors, especially working in his yard, of which he was very proud. When not outdoors you could find him reading from his extensive library of Civil War books or watching the Red Sox and Patriots. He also enjoyed vacationing in Ogunquit, Maine, and Florida with friends.



He leaves his wife, the former Elaine Smith; his daughter Natalie (Chuck) Welker of Defiance, Ohio; son David "Scott" (Kathy) Hunter of Pittsfield, Mass.; his grandchildren, Corey Hunter Brandon of Perrysburg, Ohio, Mackenzie Lynn Hunter of Salmiya, Al 'Āşimah, Kuwait, and Ashley Sarah Brandon of North Haven, Conn.; and his brother Robert F. (Shelda) Hunter, of Albuquerque, N.M. He is also survived by his aunt, Rosemary Nichols, of Pittsfield; a sister-in-law, Katherine M. Hunter of Lenox Dale; and many nieces and nephews. 



He was predeceased by his brother Daniel M. Hunter.



Funeral notice: Funeral services for David Hunter will be on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Lenox. 



Visiting hours will be on Sunday, November 26, 2017, from 2 to 4 pm. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in c/o the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street Lee, MA 01238.
