Robert A. Groves III, 85

February 16, 2018


DALTON, Mass. — Mr. Robert Arthur Groves III, 85, of Dalton, formerly of Adams, died on Friday, February 16, 2018, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield.



He was born in Adams on December 5, 1932, son of the late Robert A. Groves Jr. and Mary (Marlow) Groves Lescarbeau and his stepfather, James Lescarbeau. He attended schools in Adams. Mr. Groves was a Veteran, having served with the United States Navy for 30 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and served on many ships, including the U.S.S. Yorktown. He retired honorably as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Groves last worked for as the Chief Power Plant Engineer for the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA until his retirement. He had also worked as an engineer for many nuclear power plants along the West Coast.



He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Groves Woods of Watervliet, N.Y., and Karen Belanger and her husband Michael of Lanesborough; one son, William Groves of Pownal, Vt.; two granddaughters, Amie Moscaritolo and her husband David of Haverhill, Mass., and Kelly Skrocki and her husband Kale of North Adams; four great-grandchildren, Ava, David, Craig and Jonah; one sister, Jeanne Desnoyers of Pittsfield and many nieces and nephews.



He was predeceased by his former wife, the former Phyllis Borowski; and by two sisters, Patricia Stefanik and Mary Harrel.



Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018, at 10 a.m. in the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.



Calling hours are Thursday, February 22, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH  45250-0301.
