Sally Mason, 77

February 21, 2018

DALTON, Mass. — Sally Mason, 77, of Dalton, passed away February 21, 2018, at Springside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.

Born May 24, 1940, to the late Francis and Elizabeth Shortell Mason. Sally grew up with her 10 siblings in a small three-bedroom, one-bathroom house on Grange Hall Road in Dalton. Though the house was small, the memories created there where larger then life. She was a 1958 graduate of Dalton High School.

Ms. Mason worked for many years in administration at The Berkshire Gas Co., England Brothers and KB Toys. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church.

Sally had a great sense of humor and was always organizing games and activities for friends and family. She enjoyed candlepin bowling and playing cards. She was an avid New York Jets fan, and her love for Joe Namath was legendary. But it was her family that she loved the most. She never missed a school play, recital or sporting event for her children or grandchildren. Sally’s greatest joy in life was being a mother and a Nani.

Sally leaves behind her children, Melissa Mazzeo and husband Tony of Pittsfield and Mark Mason and his girlfriend Brandi Scalise of Pittsfield; her four beautiful granddaughters, Brittany Brown and her husband Luke, Jordyn Mason, Mia Mazzeo, and Téa Mazzeo, all of Pittsfield; sisters Ann Wagner, Kathy Bramer and Beth Mason of Dalton; and brothers John Mason of Dalton, Richard Mason of Melbourne, Florida, and Daniel Mason of Pittsfield.

Her siblings, David Mason, Michael Mason, Russell Mason and Mary Polidoro, predeceased her.

Her family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and support staff at Springside and a special thank you to Arlene and Dominick from Hospice who took amazing care of her in her final days.

Funeral notice: Funeral services will be held Monday February 26, 2018, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to invite friends and family to Mazzeo’s Ristorante for a Celebration of Life from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Services of Western Massachusetts in care of Dery-Foley Funeral Home, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226.
