Alexander Williamson, 83

May 08, 2021

RICHMOND, Mass. — Alexander C. D. Williamson, 83, of Richmond, died on May 8, 2021, at Hillcrest Commons after a long illness.

Born on Feb. 1, 1938, he was the son of Alexander and Margaret Deans Williamson. He attended Stockbridge Schools and was a graduate of Williams High School in 1957.

Following graduation in 1957 Alex served in the U.S. Army overseas in Germany, and received his honorable discharge in 1959.

After his time in the Army, he joined Kimberly Clark Corp. in Lee as a machinist. He enjoyed his trade and spent 43 years proudly working for the company, retiring in 2002.

He was a life-long member of the Stockbridge Congregational Church and gave generously.

Alex was a giver, never a taker. His donations of blood to the Red Cross were amazing from 1994 to May 6, 2019. In total, he gave 193 units of blood!

Alex was on the Board of MyCom Federal Credit Union from 2006-2019 and enjoyed his participation with this wonderful organization. Prior to MyCom, he was also on the Board of SPINC Federal Credit Union in Lee, Mass. For years he aided many members to receive help to collect money for funeral insurance coverage.

He was an avid player of the card game Pitch and he joined others in numerous tournaments, coming home happily with great wins and pockets full of dollars. He and his card partner, Maria Carr, played many great games in Pittsfield, Shelbourne Falls, and Lebanon, NY.

Alex travelled extensively, making regular trips over the years to Scotland in particular. He also traveled with his family to England, Ireland, Scotland, and France. In 2012 on a visit to London to see his daughter, Heather, she suggested that she would accompany him and her mother to Rome, Italy and to Vienna, Austria. Heather served as a personal guide, having been to both cities before. It was a trip he never forgot. Alex loved Rome and this was a highlight of his

travels.

He shared a close bond with his daughter and they shared the same birthday.

In 2017, Alex and his wife Margaret traveled to Sydney, Australia to aid his brother-in-law, Lindsay Steel. While in Sydney, Alex could see people climbing on the Harbor Bridge. To him, the idea of such a climb was a challenge and exciting. Alex decided to participate in the "Bridge Climb." This became the thrill of a lifetime at 79 years old. He did indeed climb to the top of the bridge, was so proud, and had professional photos taken to prove it.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret L. (Steel) Williamson whom he married on March 30, 1968; his daughter, Heather-Rose Williamson (Simon Assender) of London, England, his sister; Margaret-Rose Curtin (Thomas) of Tyringham, one brother; Charles Williamson of Great Barrington, and his beloved granddaughter; Adaline A.L. Assender.

Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased by his brother David Williamson and his sister, Deanna Curtin.

Alex was loved by his many friends and relatives, cousins in England, Scotland, California, and Massachusetts. He will be sorely missed.

Calling hours will be from 12pm-2pm at the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240 on Sunday, May 23. The Funeral will be held on Monday, May 24 at 11am at the Stockbridge Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Stockbridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alex's memory may be made to either the Williams High School Scholarship Fund or to the Alzheimer's Society, both in care of the funeral home.
