National Trails Day Activities Planned at Great Barrington River Walk

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Great Barrington Land Conservancy will celebrate National Trails Day at the Great Barrington River Walk with several activities throughout the day on Saturday, June 3.

At 9 a.m., a paddle and hike will be held. Canoes will be provided for a lovely Housatonic River paddle that will bring the trip to Kellogg Road and the Appalachian Trail. There, the group will put down their paddles and hoist on their packs for a gently upward 1.7 mile A.T hike up June Mountain to Home Road. Transport will be provided back to River Walk and the potluck picnic. Registration is required at info@GBLand.org. The hosts will include Christine Ward (GBLC), Dennis Regan (HVA)

Berkshire Force Softball Team Wins Greenfield Tourney

The 10 and under Berkshire Force softball team won the Greenfield Memorial Day Bash Tournament with a 5-0 record over the weekend of May 27-28.   The team was 3-0 in pool play, outscoring the competition 35-5. The girls then won the semi-final game, 5-3, before securing a 6-5 win in the championship with clutch hitting, great fielding, and tremendous pitching.   The team is coached by Will Glebus, Jessica Potter, Rick Arpante and Kevin Sherman and includes: Kamryn Renata, Audrina Maloney, Caroline Sherman, Natalie Arnhold, Taryn Bannon, Ja’Leah Rosa, Michaela Hinckley, Jaezsa Bartolotta, Amanda Pou, Cheyann Goddard and Mia Arpante.

BOSTON -- Pittsfield’s Matt Rabasco was Berkshire County’s top finisher on Monday at the Boston Marathon, clocking a time of 2 hours, 49 minutes, 17 seconds over the historic 26.2-mile course.   Rabasco was the only sub-three-hour finisher among 11 county residents registered for the race with official times listed on the Boston Athletic Association on Monday night.   The races top finishers were Kenyans Geoffrey Kirui (2:09:37) for the men and Edna Kiplagat (2:21:52) for the women.   Rabasco, 22, was listed in 532nd place overall, 399th in his division, after setting a mile pace of 6:28.   Berkshire County’s second-fastest time was turned in by Matt

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Berkshire United High School Rugby Club is seeking new players for the 2017 season.   No experience is necessary. Berkshire United practices Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Osceola Park in Pittsfield.   Berkshire United has both high school girls and boys teams and needs 15 new players for the each team this spring.   Players must be in high school grades 9-12.
