GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. - After an extensive national search, the Berkshire Co-op Market's board of directors has appointed Daniel Esko to be the next general manager. He will assume the position on Feb. 1.
Esko was a 10-year veteran at the cooperatively owned Great Barrington grocer, serving as Grocery & Wellness manager and Operations manager before he assumed the role of operations manager for Shire City Herbals in Pittsfield in 2014. During his tenure at the co-op, he also provided support, training, and consulting services for a number of other co-ops. Prior to that, he worked at the Kushi Institute Store in Becket and Whole Foods in Boston.
“I’m incredibly excited to return to Berkshire Co-op Market,” Esko said. “I am looking forward to working in partnership with the employees and board of directors to achieve a new level of success for the store and to expand our support for our local community.”
Board President Dan Seitz said Esko is the right choice.
“His leadership skills, cooperative grocery experience, knowledge of our store, and commitment to local food production will enable the co-op to move forward rapidly with store expansion and other important initiatives,” he said.
Seitz also thanked the team that helped the co-op through this transition, especially interim General Manager Zack Sheppard.
