Greylock Federal Credit Union has pledged to donate $100,000 over five years to Elder Services of Berkshire County.

Staying healthy

Greylock Federal Credit Union has pledged to donate $100,000 over five years to Elder Services of Berkshire County. The gift is to support the Elder Nutrition Program, which provides meals through both Meals on Wheels and their 15 congregate meal sites located at Councils on Aging throughout the county.

ESBC's Elder Nutrition Program reaches some of the most vulnerable seniors in Berkshire County. According to a report from Elder Services, the typical person who receives a visit from a Meals on Wheels driver is between the ages of 75 and 90, female, widowed, and living alone on a fixed income. Each visit provides not only a hot nutritious meal, but also vital social contact and a health and safety wellness check. Congregate meals provide a well-balanced meal (often the only warm meal of the day) and the opportunity for social interaction and friendship.

The service provides Berkshire seniors with more than 206,000 meals per year and incurs expenses in excess of $1.7 million per year.

Nonprofit workshop

The Nonprofit Center of the Berkshires is partnering with Northern Berkshire United Way and MCLA to offer a workshop titled "The Art & Science of Leading Transformational Change" on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to moon at the MCLA Design Lab, 49 Main St., North Adams. The workshop will be taught by Bob Voss, a senior consultant in change management. The cost is $25 for Nonprofit Center members and $35 for non-members. To register online visit the website or call 413-645-3151.

The goal of this workshop is to introduce participants to a framework and process for leaders to assess the current state of their organizations, define an ideal future state and then to create clear, actionable change initiatives for attaining that desired future state. Bob Voss, PhD, is a senior consultant at Growth River and has extensive experience as an executive, teacher, trainer, and technical writer. He served at the global nonprofit organization EnlightenNext as CEO, COO and board member.

Eating fresh

For the first time ever, the Downtown Pittsfield Farmers Market's Double Value Program has raised enough funding to continue into the indoor market season- extending the community’s opportunity to purchase local, healthy, affordable food. The Double Value Program is a money-matching program for low-income residents using SNAP (and seasonally those using WIC and Senior FMNP benefits). The market matches up to $15 per person per day, doubling the purchasing power of each participating SNAP shopper.

This program was made possible with sponsorship from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Project Bread, Jewish Women's Foundation of Berkshire County, Greylock Federal Credit Union, General Dynamics, Rotary Club of Pittsfield, RBC Wealth Management, RB Design Co, Adams Community Bank.
