Preschool, Kindergarten Registrations Scheduled Around County

Berkshire County schools are starting to schedule preschool and kindergarten registration dates for the 2018-19 school year. Schools can send their information to info@iberkshires.com to be included on this list.

All students, regardless of race, religion, color, sex, gender identity, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or homelessness, have equal access to the general education program and the full range of any occupational, vocational programs offered by public school districts.

 

Adams-Cheshire

The Adams-Cheshire Regional School District will be conducting a developmental preschool screening for all Adams and Cheshire 3- and 4-year-olds on Monday, March 5, and Tuesday, March 6, at the Hoosac Valley Elementary School, 14 Commercial St., Adams. The purpose of the screening is to identify children who may have substantive needs in speech/language, cognitive/thinking, emotional/social or physical development.  Support services are delivered to students in a side by side program with their typical peers.

Students with special needs qualify for the program on their 3rd birthday. Students without special needs who reach their 4th birthday by Aug. 31, 2018, may qualify for the program. Typical candidates will be selected by a lottery system.

Appointments can be made by calling the Special Services Office at 413-743-2939, ext. 2, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. before Friday, March 2. The screening requires parents to bring their child and his/her birth certificate to the school.

 

Adams

Saint Stanislaus Kostka School in Adams is accepting registrations for preschool children who will be 3 and 4 years old by Aug. 31 and Kindergarten students who will have turned 5 by Aug. 31.  Registration begins on Thursday, March 8.  Registration forms may be accessed online or by calling the school at 413-743-1091. Children of all faiths are accepted on a first come-first served basis.

 

Clarksburg

Children must be 5 years old as of Aug. 31, 2018, to enter kindergarten. Please call the school office at 413-663-8735 as soon as possible if your child is eligible. Kindergarten orientation for students and parents will be held at a later date; information will follow.

Parents of 3- and 4-year-olds who have a special concern about their children have the option to make an appointment to have their child screened. Please call the director of special education at 413-664-4655 to discuss your individual concerns.

 

Florida

The Gabriel Abbott Memorial School has begun the process of registering students for the 2018-19 kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes. Students need to be legal residents of the school district and reside with parents or guardians within the school district at the time of the opening day of school.  Parents will need to provide a copy of the student’s birth certificate, updated immunization form, and proof of residence.

Students must be 5 years of age or older on Aug. 31 in order to register for kindergarten. Students must be 3 years of age or older on Aug. 31 in order to register for pre-kindergarten. Screening for children entering kindergarten will be held on Monday, March 26, at the school. Parents with a preschool-age child and concerns can arrange a screening by calling 413-664-6023. Inquiries about self-pay slots ($100/week) in preschool for students who reside outside of the town of Florida can also be directed to that number. 

 

Hancock

Kindergarten registration is open at Hancock School. Parents of children who live in Hancock and will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 should stop by the school any day between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to pick up registration forms, call, or email to have a packet mailed.

To enroll a child in kindergarten, parents will need proof of residency (lease agreement, purchase & sale, proof of mortgage, etc.); a copy of their child's birth certificate; a copy of the most recent physical with vision test; and a copy of their child’s immunization records to date. Lee

A workshop to explain the kindergarten registration process will be held in the Lee Elementary School cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7. Registration packets will be distributed. Registration for kindergarten and grade one children for September 2018 will be held on Wednesday, April 4, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Children now attending Lee kindergarten do not need to register for first grade.

Parents should bring a birth certificate; children must be 4 years, 11 months, on or before Sept. 1. No child born after Oct. 1, 2013, will be accepted for kindergarten. Parents should also bring vaccination records as well as evidence of a physical examination from within the last 12 months.

Kindergarten screening will be held at the elementary school on Wednesday, April 25, and Thursday, April 26. Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled at the April 4 meeting. Kindergarten orientation will be held Thursday, May 17.

Preschool screening for 3- and 4-year-olds will be held Wednesday, April 11, through Friday, April 13. Appointments are necessary; call 413-243-9715.

 

North Adams

North Adams will hold its pre-kindergarten applications and screenings on March 26 and 27 at Greylock Elementary School, March 28 and 29 at Colgrove Park Elementary School, and April 2 and 3 at Brayton Elementary School. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Aug. 31, 2018. To schedule an appointment, call 413-776-1666.

Kindergarten registration for kids who will be 5 by Aug. 31 will be held in several locations at the following times:

* Thursday, April 5: 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Head Start for those already enrolled in Head Start and 4 to 6 p.m. at Brayton Elementary School.

* Friday, April 6: 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Brayton Elementary School

* Tuesday, April 10: Noon-2 p.m. at the Uno Community Center

* Wednesday, April 11: 11:30-2 p.m., Greylock Apartments

* Thursday, April 12: 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Mohawk Forest Community Center.

Parents should bring proof of residency (valid license with current address, copy pf a utility bill from the last 60 days and a recent mortgage bill or lease or rental agreement); a copy of their child's birth certificate; a copy of the most recent physical (which must be within 12 months) and a copy of their child’s immunization records to date; and any medical records the school may need regarding chronic conditions or food allergies.

 

Pittsfield

Children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 can be registered to enter kindergarten in the Pittsfield Public Schools in the fall at the School Administration Center, 269 First St., according to the following schedule: If child’s last name begins with A-M, registration will be March 20, 21 and 22 from 8 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. If your child's last name begins with N-Z, registration will be March 27, 28 and 29 from 8 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. Parents can also come without regard to last name on March 21 or 28 from 4 to 6 p.m.

The following documentation must be brought when registering a child: child's birth certificate, a utility bill or a rental/lease agreement for proof of address, child's immunization records and a copy of the last doctor's physical exam, parent/guardian photo ID. Parents and guardians can save time by pre-registering online but must provide the required registration documentation in person during the above registration period. Williamstown

Screening for preschoolers will be held Thursday, March 1, and Friday, March 2, between 9 a.m. and noon at Williamstown Elementary School with certified teachers and a speech and language pathologist. The screening for preschoolers is open to all Williamstown children who will be 3 or 4 years old by Aug. 31, 2018.

There is no charge for the screening. The purpose of the screening is to give parents information about their child’s development. Call Suzy at 413-458-9582, ext. 164, to make an appointment.

Kindergarten registration will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, March 7 and 8, at Willamstown Elementary School. Parents of children who live in Williamstown and will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2018, should stop by between 8:30 a.m. and noon or 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. either day to complete registration forms. Parents will meet briefly with Mrs. Betti in the principal’s office and Mrs. Stein-Payne in the health office. The whole process will take about 20 minutes.

An additional screening date has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 13.

Parents should bring proof of residency (lease agreement, purchase & sale, proof of mortgage, etc.); a copy of their child's birth certificate; a copy of the most recent physical with vision test; and a copy of their child’s immunization records to date.
