Catering website

Wild Oats Market, a cooperatively owned natural foods grocery store, bakery and cafe, has launched a new catering website that will streamline the ordering process for customers. The new site, which also include meat and seafood, will allow customers to begin their order online with a few clicks and get a preliminary quote in real time, anytime of the day or night.

Wild Oats has been offering catering services for over ten years in their Main Street location, which includes a full-service kitchen and bakery. The ingredients are organic, in-season and locally sourced whenever possible and they use humanely raised, hormone- and antibiotic-free meat and sustainable seafood.

The catering options at Wild Oats include breakfast, lunch and dinner items as well as party platters and custom cakes for birthdays, retirements and graduations. Customers can also special-order meats and seafood from the new website, including beef tenderloin and salmon by the pound and special holiday menus, when available. Visit the website to place an order.

Catwalk opening

Berkshire Humane Society will celebrate the grand opening of Catwalk Boutique in downtown Lenox on Saturday, April 6. Patrons are invited to stop by between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to shop and enjoy special promotions and refreshments. Weather permitting, BHS will host a satellite adoption outside on the store’s lawn.

Located at 26 Church St., Catwalk Boutique specializes in women's fashions and accessories. From designer brands like Gucci and Channel to stylish casual wear, the shop boasts something for everyone. All proceeds from the shop benefit Berkshire Humane Society.

The Lenox store is the second Catwalk Boutique, modeled after the very successful Great Barrington location (325 Stockbridge Road across from the Price Chopper shopping plaza). Since its soft-opening in early December 2018, the store has exceeded expectations for sales and has received a warm welcome from the community. All merchandise – along with the store's fixtures and artwork – were donated by supporters. Donations of gently, like-new women's clothing will be accepted on an ongoing basis and can be dropped off during store hours or at the shelter in Pittsfield.

As part of the grand opening, BHS will refresh Catwalk Boutique's brand, rolling out a new logo on April 5 at a press and donor event.

Architecture collaboration

Two long-established Berkshire County architectural firms are working in collaboration under one roof to provide even better services for clients in the Berkshires and beyond. Berkshire Design and Bradley Architects, are now one year into a combined arrangement at their newly renovated office at 8 Bank Row.

As a principal and architect with both Berkshire Design and Bradley Architects, Robert E Harrison is involved in and oversees projects at all levels of design, management, and production. In 2018, Mark S. Eichorn joined Bradley Architects as a principal and Kerry Bartini joined Berkshire Design as a principal architect. The two firms have a combined 157 years of doing business in the Berkshires; Bradley Architects was established in Pittsfield in 1898 and Berkshire Design  was formed in 1983 in Lenox.

The partners take great pride in mentoring architectural licensing candidates in the area and within their firms, providing assistance with study materials, resources, contacts and guidance. This year they were named an "Emerging Professional Friendly Firm" by AIA New England.

Bradley Architects's projects in Pittsfield include the build out of Wayfair's call center in the Clock Tower Business Center; the adaptive reuse of the former St. Mary's church, rectory, convent and school into 29 apartment units; and The Powerhouse Lofts (adaptive reuse of the former Holy Family Church into luxury apartments). Additional projects include the renovation of the Berkshire Block Building and a third-floor addition to the Holiday Inn Express, both in Great Barrington.

Berkshire Design's projects include private residences throughout the Berkshires, an addition and renovation for the Pediatric Development Center in Pittsfield, a new community building for Gould Farm in Monterey, renovations for the Guthrie Center in Great Barrington and the Egremont Village Inn in Egremont.

The two firms will host an open house and reception at their office at 8 Bank Row on Thursday, June 27, from 5 to 7 p.m.eam and learn more about this exciting collaboration. Refreshments will be served.

'Women and Work'

On Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5, the Williams College Center for Development Economics will host its 2019 conference, with a keynote address titled "Women and Work: The Role of Norms" by Rohini Pande. All events will be held in Griffin Hall, room 3. The conference is free and open to the public.

Christine Lagarde, managing director and chairwoman of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has recently emphasized that lowering gender gaps in health, education, wages, financial access, and labor market opportunities; improving women's access to infrastructure, sanitation, and clean water; and reducing gender discrimination in day-to-day life in developing and developed societies will create a "virtuous cycle" for the global economy. The 2019 CDE conference at Williams College will focus on significant gendered dimensions of economic development to shed light on the policies necessary for unleashing such "cycles."

The conference begins 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, with the keynote address by Rohini Pande from Harvard University. Pande will discuss how formal and informal customs and rules act to constrain female labor market opportunities in developing countries, and how policies may be leveraged to increase women's economic activity in such settings. Sessions on Friday, April 5, begin at 9 a.m. The full schedule is online. The conference is sponsored by the Williams College Center for Development Economics with the support of the World War II Memorial Lecture Fund.
