The Berkshires will start the week off with some blustery weather and heavy rain that could cause power outages or tree damage.

The National Weather Service has a high wind warning in effect for the region from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. Accuweather is predicting heavy rain to reach the Berkshires a little after 6 a.m.

Winds are expected to range from 20 to 30 mph but there could be bursts of up to 60 mph — enough to take down lines or tree limbs. Residents are advised to bring in patio furniture or loose items that could be picked up by the winds.

The NWS says there could be wiidespread power outages and difficult travel for high-profile vehicles. People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

Eversource says it closely monitoring the powerful rain and wind storm and that its line and tree crews are ready to respond to any damage or outages caused by this storm.

"With many customers working remotely and students relying on technology for distance learning during this unprecedented time, we recognize how important it is to have reliable power," said Eversource Vice President of Electric Operations Doug Foley. "Working under the challenging conditions related to the pandemic, our crews are positioned around the state and ready to respond to any damage or outages caused by Monday’s storm. Our team will work around-the-clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible – yet some restorations may take longer as we work to ensure the safety of our employees and customers."

National Grid says its positioning crews throughout the region, including 2,000 in Upstate New York.

Charge up any digital devices in case power goes out, have flashlights ready and stay away from downed power lines.
