Housatonic Heritage Walk at Bidwell House

MONTEREY, Mass. — Join the Bidwell House Museum for our 2nd Housatonic Heritage Walk of 2023, Forest Ecology and Tree Identification on Sept. 9 at 10 am. 
 
During this walk visitors will explore the woodland trails of the Bidwell House Museum with Tom Ryan, DCR state forester. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and will learn about tree and plant identification, carbon sequestration, effect of climate on the forest, and wildlife habitat adaptive forestry.
 
Tom Ryan is a Forester with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.   He is a Board Member and volunteer at the Bidwell House Museum and resides with his family in Monterey.
 
This walk is free and is being offered as part of the Housatonic Heritage Walk series. The walk is limited to 25 people and attendees are asked to pre-register on the Museum website, https://www.bidwellhousemuseum.org/event/forest-ecology-and-tree-identification-with-a-dcr-forester/
 
Dress for the weather, wear hiking boots & bring water and a snack. This hike will last 2-3 hours and will traverse approximately four miles. Be aware that the terrain is steep and rocky in a few places.
 
The walk will happen in light rain, but will not go if heavy showers or thunderstorms are forecast.

The Bidwell House Museum is located at 100 Art School Road, Monterey.
